Transition Year was the definitely the busiest year I've had. Most weeks we had workshops, trips, guest speakers or projects due. I won't lie and say I expected it because I didn't. I didn't think we'd be dossing around doing nothing but I definitely didn't think we'd fit in as much as we did. To be fully honest I'm happy we were kept busy for most of the year, because there were certain periods where there weren't much activities and this was definitely the most boring part of the year. I like the fact that we were kept on our toes as I was afraid I'd lose my work ethic from third year.
My favourite part of TY was definitely the trips, to Delphi and Barcelona, even just the day trips I really enjoyed. It was a break from school work and a change of scenery. I made so many memories on these trips with friends, and I gained so much experience from them. I was very open to trips which meant I was broadening my horizons, which was one of the aims in my personal statement at the start of the year. I even went to an engineering day in NUIG, which for the record, was not my cup of tea.
My least enjoyed part of TY as I have mentioned before were some parts where we hadn't activities going on. I think it's because we were so busy for a while and then to change to not having much to do really bored me. In fairness this only happened on a few occasions as we did have a lot of activities, so I can't complain much about it.
I gained many skills from TY, such as group work skills, interaction skills and especially, a lot more confidence.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and I would recommend TY to all incoming 3rd years. The doors that open for you are endless.
